SAP is a leading provider of ERP and offers a range of solutions to meet the requirements of organizations of varying sizes. It has been providing core business functions and features for manufacturing and mid market companies. There are four main products delivered by the company: Business One, mySAP ERP, Business Suite and All-in-one.
It is designed for small and midsized organizations which are based on limited number of business operations and the companies that follow unvarying strategies in business processes. The system can be easily integrated to third party applications and provide solution even to very small organizations. The system is based on client server architecture just like R/3 but it is strictly two tiers based and it generally has a fat client because the processing and business logic both are located at the client's side.
mySAP ERP incorporates the features of R/3, and it is powered by NetWeaver and Web Application Server which replaces BASIS. The modules include HRM, Financials, Operations (Sales, Production, Purchase, Maintenance and Logistics) and Corporate Services. The system supports complete business integrations and it can provide managers with customized reports related to SEM, Financials, Workforce and Operation Analytics.
The R/3 technologies were developed in 2002 and it was hosted on the Web Application Server which delivered a number of new features that were not found in Mainframe systems. The features of R/3 have been enhanced in many years and mySAP was launched in 2003 which included R/3 enterprise, SEM and extension sets. The major change in mySAP was introduced in 2004 when all the features including the Business Warehouse, the Strategic Enterprise Management and Internet Transaction Serve were integrated to ECC that is the ERP Central Component.
Basically, R/3 uses three layers - the user interface, the business logic and the database layer. The user interface is the presentation layer which takes in user inputs and it is done through sapgui.exe. The application server has the business logic where the data undergoes changes as designed in the business layers and the final modification of data takes place at the database server.
The software All-in-One is designed for small and midsized companies and it supports sophisticated procedures and customized developmental plans. The All-in-One functions provide support for Supply Chain management (SCM), Customer Relationship Management CRM and e-business. It provides extensive features in the Production Management and it has a preconfigured system which enables easy implementation.
Business Suite provides business intelligence and CRM features such as Enterprise Portal, Product Lifecycle Management, Mobile Business and SCM. It is supported by NetWeaver to provide the internet support. The technology is based on R/3 but it incorporates the features of internet which enables new features.
NetWeaver provides development and runtime environment that is used for custom developments. It provides solution which is better integrated, is flexible and designed on open standards.
